Dear Fellow Animal Lovers, Like you, it breaks my heart to think about, and to actually see in person, the ever worsening situation of innocent animals suffering daily. It’s not only a localized tragedy, but a global one as well.
Every day the press highlights stories about animals becoming victims of the economic downturn. Due to the state of the economy, many people can’t afford their pet’s big ticket expenses like surgeries and/or other medical procedures and folks facing foreclosure or a loss of a job can no longer afford proper care and feeding of their animals. To make matters worse, many animal shelters face overcrowding and under-funding. In Washtenaw County alone, there has been a 75 percent increase over the previous year of pets being surrendered to the local shelters.
In response to this dire situation, my staff and I, at the Wickland Group, started the Animals At Risk Project. Here is how it works: For anyone that buys or sells a property through the Wickland Group or refers a buyer or seller to us, we will donate between *$100 – $300 in your name to the animal shelter of your choice.
Your Humane Society Donation Check will be cut at closing, and may be earmarked for the Humane Society Emergency Relief Fund, the HSHV Bountiful Bowls Program, the Humane Society of Huron Valley, a local rescue organization or the general fund at your local Michigan County Animal Shelter. It’s a win, win situation for everyone, especially the furry residents of Washtenaw County that can not help themselves.
We can’t save every animal in need, but together we can make a big difference to the animals at risk right here in the Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County communities.
